First edition illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Vertot, 4 title vignettes, 5 fold-out maps, a plan of Rhodes and 70 hors-texte portraits. At the end of volumes 3 & 4, there is a list of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, classified by region and country, a dissertation on the government of the Order of Malta, and the old and new statutes of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. A highly critical and accurate work, the most important on the subject. (Quérard X, 128; Brunet V, 1149.) A very fine copy in large paper.
