Notre-Dame de Paris. Paris, printed by Cosson for Charles Gosselin, 1831. 2 volumes in-8 (207 x 126 mm) of 4 ff.n.ch., 404 pp. for volume I ; 2 ff.n.ch., 536 pp. for volume II. Half calf with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, marbled edges (English binding of the time). Clouzot, 145; Carteret I, p. 400; Vicaire IV, 256. First edition, a first issue copy without any mention of edition. The title pages are decorated with a vignette engraved by Johannot. "Printed at 1100 copies, divided into four installments, the last three with mentions: second, third or fourth edition. Those of the first tranche, without mention of edition and without author's name are very rare, and for the same quality, are commonly sold at three times the price of the others. In this case, do not be too demanding on the quality of the binding and on its interior condition. The book is rare" (Clouzot). Some foxing; bindings rubbed, spines partially split.
