First edition. Élie Bertrand (ca. 1712-1790) brings together all the theories valid at that time on the origin of the Earth, with details on the structure of mountains and on earthquakes, a theory on fossils, as well as a treatise on seas and the origin of mountains. There is also a chronological memoir of earthquakes felt in Switzerland since the 6th century, and a description of the author's mineralogical cabinet.
