Originally, the marble sculptures of
Carrara, ordered by Louis XV in 1739 and realized between 1740 and 1745, adorned the watering troughs of the chateau of marly. The originals are now exhibited in the Louvre Museum (Inv. MR 1803) and copies are notably located on the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
