After Paul-Joseph DELCLOCHE (Liège, 1716-1755) Susanna at the bath surprised by the old men Oil on canvas, lined 85 x 100.5 cm (restorations) The painting faithfully reproduces the work signed by Paul-Joseph Delcloche, a painter from Liège who was active in the first half of the 18th century, and which is part of the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Liège (KIK-IRPA, cliché KM016449). This biblical subject, accompanied by its counterpart with Joseph and Putiphar's wife, served as an example of good behaviour for the observer. The two paintings represented two opposite attitudes. While Putiphar's wife is seductive, Susanna is chaste and does not want to respond to the advances of the two men who catch her naked.
