Washerwomen by the river
Oil on canvas signed lower left.
Dimensions: 46.5 x 65.5 cm
Like his father, Hippolyte Camille Delpy, who was also his teacher, Henry Jacques Delpy was a landscape painter from the Barbizon School and embarked on an artistic career very early on. Also influenced by Daubigny, he represents undergrowth, ponds, the banks of the Oise and the Seine, always imbued with melancholy and poetic emotion in a quick and light touch.
