Provenance : Private collection Aarau Switzerland and Monte-Carlo Biography : Animal and alpine landscape painter born in Geneva, son of the great Geneva history painter Jean-Léonard Lugardon, Albert Lugardon was a student of Calame before continuing his training with Ary Scheffer in Paris. He made a name for himself by depicting the high mountains of the Valais and the Bernese Oberland. His work is generally associated with the verism movement, the ultimate degree of realism in landscape painting in the second half of the 19th century, which focused on highlighting the purity of nature.
