Josué Dupon (1864-1935)

Allegorie des Friedens, (1916) Important bronze sculpture with golden patina, signed, dated and titled. Size : 50 x 60 cm An Antwerp sculptor and engraver, he received training at the academies of Roeselare and Antwerp before perfecting his skills at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under the direction of Thomas Vinçotte. He started in the workshop of Clément Carbon in Roeselare and soon became known as a realistic sculptor of exotic animals. His large bronze birds at the top of the two massive pillars of the monumental entrance to the Antwerp Zoological Gardens and his camel on the roof of the administrative office established his reputation. He was also responsible for numerous works for public buildings and monuments.
