A French sculptor born in Riez and who died in Paris, he started at the School of Painting and Sculpture in Marseille before joining Caffieri's workshop in Paris. In 1769, he won a first prize and entered the Ecole Royale des Enfants Protégés. After his training, he settled in Rome from 1771 to 1775.
Collaborating with Julien for the execution of the marbles of the Queen's dairy in Rambouillet, he also worked for many great Parisian sites such as the Pantheon, the Palais Bourbon or the Vendome Column of the Grande Armée. He worked with the sculptors Joseph Espercieux, Pierre Petitot and Pierre Cartellier.
