H. 113 cm x W. 188 cm. History The tradition of the epitaph dates from the The tradition of the epitaphios dates from the 14th century and its iconography is inspired by the Holy Shroud of Turin. It represents Christ after the descent from the cross, lying on his back and dressed in a loincloth, while his body is being prepared for burial. It is used on the last two days of the Holy Week in Orthodox worship, as part of the ceremonies marking the Death and Resurrection of Christ. It is then placed on the Holy Table, where it remains throughout the Easter season. Плат с изображением Христа во гробе.
