On the first edition (1809-28) of the monumental work cf. Blackmer 476 and Atabey 343 - In 1820 the Parisian bookseller, publisher, and writer Charles Louis Fleury Panckoucke (1780-1844) began with the publication of a second edition of the "Description de l'Égypte" which he dedicated to the French king. This new edition, when completed in 1830, consisted of 24 (in 26) volumes of text and 12 volumes of plates, whose copper engravings were printed without color, unlike the various editions of the first edition. - The Description de l'Égypte is considered a major impetus to the emergence of Egyptology as a science. - ╔Present:╗ Antiquites Vol. II (62-64, 67, 68, 70, 71, 76-92).
