BERNARD FRANCIS

Nicolas. Fines Bouteilles. 1930. Lithographic poster in two parts. Edition Paul-Martial, Paris. Bound in cloth, very good condition: very small tears restored at the junction of the two panels, very vivid and fresh colours. 230 x 150 cm Alain Weill. The Encyclopedia of the Poster. Editions Hazan 2011. Page 87 : "All the great Art Deco poster artists have stylized a small character, Cassandre in the lead with his mythical drinker with a bowler hat for Dubo-Dubon-Dubonnet.....This is undoubtedly an opportunity to mention other talented graphic artists working in the same vein: Francis Bernard, a member of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) and artistic director of the Paul-Martial publishing house, who invented an ephemeral little wine waiter for Nicolas..." What a pleasure to find this little sommelier today on the eve of the centenary of the illustrious House, created in 1922!
