Description

*Chamane danseur debout

wearing a removable helmet in the shape of an alligator's head, topped with a large crest. Underneath, the man wears a cap with a strap that passes under his chin. He is adorned with round earrings with holes in them, and a necklace with three rows of beads, both choker and sautoir. His arms are decorated with armbands made up of four rows of beads. His bare torso is crossed by a wide band of cloth with a row of large beads forming an "X". He brings his arms in front of him and holds objects made of plant fibres or feathers that he shakes to the rhythm of the music. He wears a short loincloth with bracelets on his knees and ankles. His legs are spread and bent, indicating that he is swinging from one leg to the other. This dancer is depicted during a ritual ceremony. The finery, facial expression and posture symbolize a connection between this dancer and the visible and invisible world. The music creates an atmosphere and the dance frees the mind and body.
