*Vase tripode cylindrique

decorated with a schematized human face, in relief. The mouth is open and the nose is in relief. The round eyes are surrounded by body paint with beige and black geometric patterns. Two beige squares evoke the cheeks. Each foot of the vase is decorated with a beige band. Brown terracotta with red-orange slip and cream decoration. Good state of conservation Chupicuaro - Guanajuato - Michoacan, Mexico, 600 - 100 BC 13,7 x 12,5 cm A thermoluminescence test from the QED laboratory will be given to the buyer Provenance : - Former Guy Joussemet collection since 1966 - Collection Galerie Mermoz since 2008 Lot presented under the temporary importation regime This vase is exceptional for the quality of its polychromy, with rich, vivid and perfectly preserved colors. Its simple shape combined with more complex geometric patterns give it a beautiful modern aesthetic and make this vase a very good example of Chupicuaro ceramics. The Chupicuaro culture, which takes its name from the village of the same name in the present-day state of Guanajuato in central Mexico, developed between 800 B.C. and A.D. 300, first in the mountainous regions of Michoacán and then spreading more widely from the Mexico City basin to the northern edge of Mesoamerica. Although its functioning and history remain poorly understood, it is nevertheless renowned for the quality of its ceramics with highly coloured polychrome decoration and geometric patterns, generally in the form of pyramids or zigzags.
