In the pre-classical period, the multitude of cult offerings representing female figures evoke the importance given to women. These figurines were also related to fertility because of the exaggeration of female attributes such as hips and breasts. The particularity of this sculpture is the presence of two faces, which is related to the theme of Janus, that is to say, the passage between the summer and winter solstice. The Tlatilco culture, whose name means "the place of hidden things" in Nahuatl, developed in the Mexico Valley between 1200 and 800 BC. Its sculptures are mainly terracotta or ceramic representing female figures with generous forms and accentuated attributes. The one we are presenting is quite exceptional. Its perfect state of preservation as well as its great expressiveness typical of Tlatilco figurines make it a work of rare quality. Lot presented under the regime of temporary importation
