[BOUILLET] Treatise on the means of making rivers navigable [...]. Where it is also spoken of the means of withdrawing the ships sunk to the bottom, and of saving the goods [...]. Amsterdam P. Mortier 1696 8vo: [8]-102-[2] pp.; 12 pl. 18th-c. glazed calf, sgilt ruled spine with raised bands, red spr. edges (spine, edges and corners rubbed, joints parly split). Second edition (1st: 1693) of this work on hydraulic engineering, a translation of "Arte di restituire a Roma la tralasciata navigatione del suo Tevere" (Rome, 1685), according to the preface of "Nuovi ritrovamenti" by the engineer Cornelis Meijer. Deals with obstacles to navigation on rivers (width of streambed, destruction of the riverbank, rocks, jetties, floodings, etc.) and the way to face them by constructing dikes, locks, a machine to clean the river bottom, etc., illustrated on 12 plates, some fold.
