[MIRABEAU, Honoré-Gabriel-Riquetti, comte de] Atlas of the Prussian Monarchy, containing ten geographical maps, ninety-three tactical plates, & more than one hundred numerical tables. London s.n. 1788 In-f.: [4]-4 pp; 103 plates and 78 tables (2 folding tables browned, some light spotting). Contemporary half calf with corners, marbled paper boards, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets (boards rubbed, wear to spine, edges and corners very much dulled and missing). First edition of this atlas accompanying the work published the same year under the title "De la monarchie prussienne sous Frédéric le Grand" (4 vol. in-4°). Contains 10 double-page maps by Edme Mentelle (Germany, possessions of the King of Prussia west of the Weser, Bavaria...), 93 plates of military tactics, including 5 double-page plates, and 78 tables, some of them folding (demography, exports and imports - from Königsberg in particular -, Pomeranian manufactures, state of the army...). At the time of the writing of this work, the power of the Prussian army was at its highest. Mirabeau said: "Prussia is not a state that has an army, it is an army that has conquered the nation.
