MARIËN, Marcel Les cristallisations. 1959 Collage, 43 x 58,5 cm; signed and dated on the lower part, titled (by Mariën?) on the reverse of the frame. Under frame (glass cracked, not unframed). A large and amusing collage consisting of a frieze of 3 superimposed strips taken from a sales catalogue and illustrated with several dozen household objects at 25, 50 or 100 francs. 30 boxes have been superglued with portraits of ancient or modern writers, Proust thus neighbouring a pedal bin, Stendhal with a whistling kettle, Apollinaire with a bathing cap, Montaigne with a sailor sweater, Verlaine with an embossed dishcloth or Mme de Sévigné with a one-piece table knife. List of names on a ms. label on the back of the frame. Prov. Christian Bussy (1936-2019), Belgian journalist, essayist and literary critic, a great specialist in surrealism.
