Description

APOLLINAIRE, Guillaume Cortège priapique followed by Les Jeux innocents by Raymond Radiguet and La Muse en rut by Pascal Pia. Printed in the island of Java in thirty copies [Bandung, A.C. Nix ? 1939 ?] In-8°. Br. with beige cover printed in grey (browned). A very rare edition printed at the expense of the Java-born Dutch writer Eddy Du Perron (1899-1940). Edition of 30 copies on laid paper. According to Dutel, "Jeux innocents" is a pastiche by Pascal Pia. Jean-Jacques Pauvert however gives them as being by Radiguet. Ex. given by Du Perron to Fred Batten, cf. inscription on the false title "Fred Batten Den Haag, 24.7.1939 van E. du Perron (Java)". With an autograph note in Dutch by Batten on the last bl. dated 10/2/1977, according to which all texts in this booklet are the work of Pascal Pia, who used to attribute his own erotic texts to others. The booklet was printed in Bandung [Java] by A.C. Nix at Du Perron's expense in July 1939, with 30 copies for Du Perron's friends. According to Dutel and Pia, it was printed in Belgium or Holland around 1927. The printing house A.C. Nix was active in Bandung from 1904 to 1951 (or 1959). Batten's recollection may not be entirely accurate, for if he received his copy in 1939, Du Perron wrote on 8 November 1938 from Bandung to J. Greshoff: 'Verder doe ik in het pak, als verrassing, 5 exx. van de complete poëzie van Pia, onder pseud. v. Apollinaire, Radiguet en onder eigen naam. Neem een ex. voor jou, geef een ex. aan J.v.N. en verkoop 3 exx. (Menno zond ik een ex.)" [he sends him 5 copies of the book in question, 1 for himself, 1 to give away and 3 for sale]. Dutel also notes a single ex. illustrated by Rojankowski in 1937. Ref Pia 279. - Dutel II:1303. - Gérard Nordmann Erotic Library - Part I. Paris, Christies, 27/4/2006, n. 26 (= Pauvert III:480). - E. Du Perron, Brieven. Deel 7. 2 juli 1937-30 november 1938 - dbnl (online). Prov. Frederik Eduard Anton Batten (Batavia 1910-1980), specialist in Dutch literature of the 19th century, friend of Du Perron.
