Jules Oury dit Marcel-Lenoir (Montauban 1872 - Montricoux 1931)

Still Life with Artist's Tools and Flame, ca. 1920-1925 Oil on paper mounted on board 23.3 x 22.5 cm Signed lower left Marcel-Lenoir We thank Mrs Marie Ange Namy for confirming the authenticity of this work. The artist painted this work around 1920-1925. Here Marcel-Lenoir is probably fascinated by some of the tools that adorn his artist's studio. On the left, he depicts an ovoid bottle and its lid, in black. On the right, he links together the pencil, the charcoal stick and, underneath them, the painter's knife, the steel blade of which we can see protruding slightly. In the background, he figures a piece of resin, a brown rectangular block. At the heart of the work, a spark seems to be burning, conducive to creation and which lights up and warms the artist's studio. The painter harmonises solemn colours of grey, ochre and black, which we find in the Cubists. The orange flame remains the central point of light in the work. And his objects stand out schematized on a background of cubist aesthetics.
