Description

Andy Warhol/Che Guevara diptych. Trio of serigraphs illustrating the portrait of Che in a multicolored palette. Edition around 1990. TBE+ the pink background version TBE with wear. 60 X 90 cm This world-famous image is from a photograph taken by Korda Alberto in 1960 (a Cuban, personal photographer of F. Castro) during a speech of F. Castro on the occasion of the burial of the victims of Coubre (80 dead and 200 wounded) where Simone de Beauvoir and JP Sartre are present. Originally, Warhol had not made this portrait of Che Guevara. It was in fact a forgery created by Gerard Malanga (who needed money) and sold to a gallery in Rome. When Warhol heard about the fraud, he "authenticated" the fake, on the condition that all the money would be returned to him.
