Andy Warhol/Cowboys and Indians. Lithograph illustrating a pair of Indian Kachina dolls, in a multicolored palette. Published by Gaultney-Klineman in 1986. Stamp and date on the back + "Lenox Museum Board" stamp. Rare. New condition. 91,5 X 91,5 cm. Kachin dolls were commonly used by Native American tribes in the Southwestern region of the United States. They were made of poplar root and used in rituals to instruct young women about the spirits that control the natural world. With the series "Cowboys and Indians" Warhol investigates how Native American history is constructed by the media. Geronimo resisted the forces that tried to displace him and his people but was eventually captured, living as a prisoner of war for the last two decades of his life.
