JEAN JOUVENET (ROUEN 1644 - PARIS 1717) Two Flying Putti Oval canvas in an 18th century giltwood frame Height: 60.5 cm Width: 75.5 cm Inscription in ink on the reverse of the canvas: Painted by Jouvenet and a N°49 € 8,000/10,000 History: most likely Vigny sale, Paris, March 29, 1773, no. 6, 22 inches by 27 inches (59.4 cm by 73 cm), sold for 24 livres. Bibliography : Antoine Schnapper, edition completed and prefaced by Christine Gouzi, Jean Jouvenet (1644-1717) et la peinture d'histoire à Paris, Paris, 2010, p.309, Painting mentioned n°75 (lost painting). We compare this painting to the two allegories of Spring and Winter illustrated by children painted by Jouvenet for the Grand Trianon (op. cit. Schnapper, Gouzi, p. 215, P. 57, P.58), as well as to the putti in the decor of the Grand'chambre du Parlement de Bretagne (op. cit. p. 227, P. 79, P.80-85).
