PALDEN LHAMO ON BASE WITH AUREOLE

Bronze gilt Tibet , 18th century Weight: 2711 grams Dimensions: 31 x 22 x 10,5 cm Palden Lhamo is the fierce or dark emanation of Vajra Sarasvati. She is shown riding on her white mule in a side-saddle, wielding a sword in her right hand while the other hand is holding a small skull cup or kapala, from which she uses to drink blood. In the crook of her arm we see a flexible staff with skulls attached. Her ghoulish face looks menacing with her open mouth showing fierce fangs and her tongue. Her wild mane streams upward like fire and is decorated with a crown of skulls. In the front of her saddle hangs a small sack full of curses and diseases. The mule is standing on rocky grounds, the base is carried by small horses and she is framed by a fiery gate.
