SITTING BUDDHA

Bronze Tibet , 18th century , Pala Revival Weight: 2777 grams Dimensions: 27,5 x 17,5 x 15,5 cm A throne supported by two lions and a cloth hanging down in the front, topped by a lotus flower on which the seated Buddha is showing the dharmachakra mudra, the turning of the dharma wheel. This mudra symbolizes the moment the Buddha preached to his followers after his enlightenment. The throne has a rectangular backrest and his head is framed by an aureole with a flower in the middle. The Buddha is dressed in a simple robe covering his left shoulder and legs. His gaze is calm but attentive with a faint smile. The raised urna between his arched eyebrows and his head and ushnisha covered in curls. The backrest is decorated with a lion and horse on the side and two smaller elephants on the top as well as the fiery diamond as decorative element.
