MAHAKALA WITH PUJAS

Stone Tibet , 18th century or later Weight: 4205 grams Dimensions: 26 x 18 x 6 cm Mahakala is a fierce emanation of Shiva in Hinduism and protector of Tibetan Buddhism and also a wrathful embodiment of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvaras compassion. He is standing on a prostrate human on a double reverse lotus base with beaded rim and is surrounded by a fiery aureole. The deity is standing with bent knees dressed in a short garment, a large skull garland hanging under his big belly. In his arms he is holding a ritual stick and his left hand is holding a skull cup while the right hand is using a curved knife. His body is decorated with jewellery, large floral ear pendants are dangling from his ears. The face is angry with bulging eyes, the mouth showing all teeth, heavy eyebags and a third eye on the forehead. The skull tiara can't even tame the wild blueish hair sticking out. The backside is flat.
