Corpus juris civili in IIII partes distinctum Lyon [Geneva], Barthélémy Vincent, 1583. 3 volumes in one in-4 volume (257 x 180 mm), (I) q[8]-qq[8]-s[8]-Z[8]-ZZ[8]-ZZZ[8]-AAAA[8]; (II) †[8]-††2-z[8]-gg[8]-[1]; (III) *[8]-**[4]-S[8]; (IV) B[8], in Latin. Soft vellum, boards decorated with a decorative frieze and a double frame of cold fillets, central medallion in cold, smooth spine decorated with four decorative frieze bands, flaps (contemporary binding). First edition of the Justinian Code commented by the jurist Denys Godefroy. It is illustrated with a double-page plate representing the scheme of kinship lines and decorated on the title with the Geneva publisher's mark, with the motto "Sine te nihil". A copy annotated in Latin by a contemporary reader of the edition, with a handwritten ex-libris of the time on the title leaf. (Binding unbound, spine damaged (spotting), corner of the upper flap missing). PROVENANCE Ferdinand Courbon (handwritten mention on the back cover).
