[BERRY (Aux armes de la Duchesse de) (1798-1870)]

Missale parisiense [...] DD. Caroli-Gaspar-Guillelmi de Vintimille, [...] Paris, 1774. In-folio (400 x 265 mm), 522-32-cxii pp. in Latin. Green long-grained morocco, spine titled and richly ornamented, boards decorated with a broad cold-stamped decoration surmounted by a double frame of a broad and sevenfold gilt fillet with fleur-de-lis at the corners, with gilt arms in the centre framed by a gilt fillet in octagonal rectangle, gilt roulette on the edges, gilt fleurdelisé inner frieze, gilt edges, pink silk lining and guard, silk bookmarks (binding signed "Simier relieur du roi", with its label). A very fine large-format missal, first published in 1738 under the authority of Charles de Vintimille, Count du Luc. A precious copy with the large coat of arms of Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Sicile, Duchess of Berry, embossed in the centre of the two covers, in a rich and rare period binding. PROVENANCE Library of the Château de Rosny, a luxurious library as much for the choice of editions and the richness of the bindings as for the importance of the manuscripts it contained. (Some rubbing to the binding; very good condition inside).
