I believe, and you know what I think of previous works where, alone, you completed the type of novel indicated by the art of these last years, that really you are right, because you are an original, to return to a solitary and displaced work, each time, with your dream and the flavour of such and such an hour of life; and these will be the rare, particular books that one needs, outside of the official talent. A Character is one of those, which remain on hand...".
Léon Hennique had just published his spiritualist novel A Character in this year 1889.
