Beautiful letter in which Saint-Simon rejoices over the victory of the battle of Fontenoy (May 11, 1745, in which Louis XV's troops commanded by Maurice de Saxe defeated the English and the Dutch). "I embrace you from here Sir in the transport of my joy. To arrive and win without interval and at the opening of a campaign, what glory, what happiness, and what an open field! I could not resist the pleasure of sharing my joy with yours nor the indiscretion of testifying it myself to the King. He asks the minister to present the letter he is writing to the King, "and to receive it from him in favour of more than a century that we have seen the King of France win a battle in person"...
