Tivoli April 3, 1952. He is late: "Tours and detours in Italy are the cause. To write at this moment would be very difficult for me [...]. I am devoured by everything I see here"... Aix Saturday morning [22.XI.1952]. "It is useless to tell you my emotion in front of this cruel event [death of Paul ELUARD on November 18]. As soon as I receive your telegram I will send you the drawing as quickly as possible. It dates from the very first years of our friendship. I hope it will reach you in time. One prayer, however: I am very fond of this little drawing, not for aesthetic reasons, as you can imagine! Aix 25 February 1953. Please deposit at the Louise Leiris Gallery "the portrait of Paul Eluard that I had sent you, and which I think you no longer need"... The Tholonet July 11, 1954. "I am answering your inquiry as accurately as possible. On the other hand, I am writing to Louise Leiris to ask her to entrust you with photographs relating to this period (all that I had kept in this matter having disappeared at the time of the invasion, in 1940)"...
