Our painting is a perfect example of the art of Jacobus Storck, brother of Abraham Storck (1644 - 1704): a harbour layout, a clear horizon populated by majestic ships. Storck worked in Hamburg and Amsterdam but, as here, was able to draw on Roman, antique and classical motifs.
