Description

Charles Lapicque (French, 1898-1988) "Force Eight", 1971 Canvas signed, titled and dated on the back. Height 89, width 116 cm. Provenance: Lapicque family by descent from the artist. Bibliography: - René Le Bihan, "Charles Lapicque", editions Le Télégramme, 2007, cover of the book. - Charles Lapicque, une rétrospective", published by the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, 2008, reproduced on p. 71. Lapicque's unfailing fidelity to the theme of the sea allows us to consider the evolution of his way of painting the same subject. Lively, fresh, evoking the comic strip vignette, the artist resumes his embrace of the late 1940s. Between retrospective reading and prophetic testament, the sailor seems to capsize in the color.
