Provenance: offered by the artist in 1986 to André Carpentier, its current owner, friend and neighbour from 1958 to 2011, initiator of Georges Mathieu's exhibitions in Geneva in 1985, Luxembourg in 1986 and Zurich in 1987. Attached: two letters and an envelope addressed by Georges Mathieu to André Carpentier. The letters typed on headed paper signed "Mathieu", one bearing the handwritten inscription "et de mon très vif souvenir".
