Federico Cervelli (attribuito) Allegory of Lust

This large painting, with the title Neptune and Amphitrite, was attributed to Pietro Liberi (Padua 1605 - Venice 1687) by tradition in the family of origin, and was part of a series of four canvases dedicated to the Seasons; together with the Allegory of Autumn interpreted by Bacchus and Ariadne, it was hesitated by Semenzato in Venice in 2002 with this attribution. Even in the compositional syntax largely inspired by the works of Liberi and the Florentine Sebastiano Mazzoni (Florence 1611 - Venice 1678), this allegory, in our opinion, presents evident stylistic relationships with the allegorical works of Federico Cervelli who, after his Lombard training, began his Venetian career. right in the workshop of Pietro Liberi.
