Carved stone pipe bowl. Hopewell culture (?), United States of America. H : 5 ; W : 8 cm (accidents and reattachments). Note: this pipe bowl is reminiscent of the Hopewell style, which is linked to the archaic Moundbuilder cultures. It shows a snake coiled around itself. The Moundbuilder cultures developed in the western half of the United States over a period of more than 5000 years. They gradually disappeared after the arrival of the Europeans following the voyage of Christopher Columbus
