The current owner's grandfather, Clément R**, a cabinetmaker by trade, had befriended Eugène Brouillard during fishing trips along the Saône. Clément R**, a great art lover, acquired some of the painter's works in his collection. He also provided him with free wooden panels for his paintings, at a time when the raw material represented a cost for the artist. In gratitude, Brouillard gave him some of his own works. This painting is one of them.
