Pair of engravings with models of ancient costumes 1590 woodcut on virgin paper, within frame Engraved part cm 15x10 Cousin of the famous Titian, Cesare Vecellio was an eclectic artist, painter, engraver, miniaturist, with a strong interest in the research of costumes. This can be seen in his fashion treatise 'Habiti antichi et moderni di tutto il mondo', published in Venice in 1590. For this work the artist made drawings of the clothes, commenting on them with a description that did not stop at clothing alone, but became a reflection on society and on economic, religious and political life. Containing illustrations of clothing styles from every part of the then known world, from popes and princes to peasants and soldiers, it can be counted as the first treatise on the history of fashion.
