Because, as he himself counts, the Moroccan won two crowns there, in the 1500m and, here, in the 5000m. Having returned from Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 empty-handed, the four-time world champion in the 1500m had revised the history of the Olympics by saying to himself the day before the race: "Hicham, if you want people to remember you as a great champion, you can lose today. But if you want them to remember you as a legendary athlete, you must win." He remains to this day, along with Paavo Nurmi in 1924, the only athlete to have achieved this double at the Olympics.
