Description

Athens 2004. Hicham el Guerrouj, 5000m © Brunot Fablet/L'Équipe August 28, 2004. This is the front page photo that "L'Équipe" uses to crown Hicham el Guerrouj "king of Athens". Because, as he himself counts, the Moroccan won two crowns there, in the 1500m and, here, in the 5000m. Having returned from Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 empty-handed, the four-time world champion in the 1500m had revised the history of the Olympics by saying to himself the day before the race: "Hicham, if you want people to remember you as a great champion, you can lose today. But if you want them to remember you as a legendary athlete, you must win." He remains to this day, along with Paavo Nurmi in 1924, the only athlete to have achieved this double at the Olympics. Single later print. Edition 1/1. Printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin 300g paper. Flamant art frame. 40 x 60 cm
