Description

Moscow 1980. Wladislav Kozakiewicz, pole vault © André Lecoq/L'Équipe 30 July 1980. It was a state of grace for Wladislav Kozakiewicz. The Polish pole vaulter cleared all the bars on his first attempt to 5.75m, in front of the Soviet Konstantin Volkov, the French armada (Vigneron, Houvion, Bellot) and the whistles of the 70,000 spectators at the Lenin Stadium. While in Poland, another moustachioed man, Lech Walesa, was fighting for trade union freedom, "Koza" concluded his victorious contest with a world re-cord (5.78m) and an arm of honour addressed to the public. In 1985, it is the Iron Curtain that he will cross, to take refuge in West Germany. Single later print. Edition 1/1. Black and white piezographic print on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin 300g paper. Flamant art frame. 40 x 60 cm
