Description

London 1948. 5000m © Collections L'Équipe 1 August 1948. A blazing sun beat down on Wembley Stadium, showing no mercy to the athletes who were returning to the Olympic Games in London after a twelve-year interruption due to the war. During the 5000m heats, the Scandinavian favourites are overcome by the heat; the Czech Emil Zatopek, winner of the 10,000m, imposes a useless sprint which may cost him the title the next day, when the rainstorm has turned the asphalt into mud. Single posterior print. 40 X 40 cm
