Description

Mexico 1968. Morelon-Trentin, tandem © Robert Legros/L'Équipe October 21, 1968. For a week now, the Agustin-Melgar velodrome has been the playground of two friends who live next door in Créteil. Daniel Morelon, the tall, dark-haired man, and Pierre Trentin, the burly blond, had already won a title each (speed for Morelon, kilometer for Trentin) before joining forces in tandem. In the semi-finals against the Belgians (shown here in the lead), they only won in the last few metres, but beat the Dutch without any trouble in the final. Their secret: "We had our bearings, our signs, a code," explained Morelon. To start together, to accelerate together and to be at our best together. Sometimes we didn't even need to talk to each other. When he saw that I was getting up, he would also get up to start. Sometimes I'd tell him, 'Come on,' which meant it was time to put it all on." Single later print. Edition 1/1. Black and white piezographic print on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin 300g paper. Flamant art frame. 40 x 60 cm
