Description

Beijing 2008. Opening ceremony © Pierre Lahalle/L'Équipe 8 August 2008. It is in this majestic interlacing of steel and concrete, nicknamed the "Bird's Nest", that the XXIX Summer Games begin. China, the host country for the first time, also inaugurated its new status as a world power... a little superstitious (the date was chosen for all the 8s it contains because it is the number that symbolises prosperity) and very far-sighted (planes went to bomb the clouds in the Beijing sky to chase away the rain). A fortnight later, by beating the United States (100 medals, 48 of which were gold), it also asserted itself as a sporting superpower. Single later print. Edition 1/1. Printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin 300g paper. Flamant art frame. 53 x 80 cm
