A former student at the Académie royale d'architecture, Lucotte was the editor of numerous articles in Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopédie, in particular those on masonry, marblework, marquetry, joinery and plumbing. He also wrote an unusual treatise on the Art of Masonry (Paris, 1783).
