For Slewinski still life is an essential and very personal way of translating pictorial reality, on a par with the possibilities of landscape and portraiture. His first still lifes were executed under the influence of Gauguin who himself had learned his lesson from Cézanne. However, the painter soon adopted arrangements of great simplicity: modest choice of objects, limited colours, evenly distributed light without excessive brilliance or shadows, minimal material elegantly smoothed by the brush. Here Slewinski delivers a masterpiece of the still life, where mystery and silence are the full manifestation of the painter's Polish soul. Kompozycje martwych natur Ślewińskiego charakteryzują się niezwykłą prostotą ujęcia : pospolite przedmioty, skromna gama kolorów, światło padające równomiernie i nie tworzące zbędnych cieni i odblasków, płaska plama barwna upłaszczona płynnym duktem pędzla. Owe ciche istnienie przedmiotów skłania do kontemplacji i wzmacnia wrażenie "zwyczajnej niezwykłości". Również i w tej martwej naturze Ślewiński oddaje nastrój tajemniczości i ciszy które są kwintesencją jego polskiej duszy.
