18th century Hebrew marriage contract
MANUSCRIPT - KETUBAH
Marriage contract in Hebrew.
Illuminated manuscript on parchment drawn up in Mantua in 1660 between Shmaya, son of Aminadav Cazes and Mirele, daughter of Yossef Rimini. The text of the Ketubah is written in pen, framed by a portico and fillets. It is surrounded by a polychrome border: 55 x 44 cm
(Major damages, stains, crumbling and wrinkled parchment)
A rare 17th century ketubah which bears witness to the tradition of illuminating marriage contracts in Italy. Few 17th century ketubot have survived the test of time.
