Description

[FRANC-MAÇONNERIE].

The Art of the F∴ Thuileur. S.l.n.d. [early 19th century]. In-16, 229 pp. long-grained red morocco, gilt scroll framing, gilt Instruction M∴ in the center of the first board, smooth ornate spine, gutter stylus holder (Period binding). Charming handwritten tuileur, neatly written in brown and red ink within a red framing net. It is an abridged adaptation of L'Art du thuileur, published in year XII by Firmin Abraham. The work reveals the questions of the Brother Tiler and the answers expected for the seven grades of the Modern Rite (French Rite) and the thirty-three degrees of the Ancient Scottish Rite. Tilers are handwritten or printed collections of the stereotyped exchange of questions and answers, by rite and grade, by which the Brother Tiler can verify whether someone presenting himself as a Freemason is indeed a Freemason, and in what grade, thus ensuring that the temple is covered, i.e. safe from profane persons. Interesting masonic manuscript in very good condition.
