Histoire [sic] les plus remarquables de l'Ancien et du Nouveau Testament. Amsterdam, Jean Covens and Corneille Mortier, 1732. 2 parts in one volume in-folio, speckled calf, wide gilt lace, spine decorated, red edges (Dutch binding of the time). First French edition, published three years after the Dutch original. Superb illustration drawn and engraved in etching by Jan Luyken (1649-1712), Dutch painter-engraver who was also a poet and theologian. It consists of 62 plates and 5 maps outside the text, all double-page, and 30 vignettes in the text. The same vignette by Bernard Picart is repeated on both titles. From the libraries of Lemède d'Hermoye, with old signature on the title, and of the Jesuit scholasticate of Lille, with ex-libris and stamp. Armorial bookplate of an unidentified bishop. First cover detached, binding worn with tears and spotting, some scattered foxing. Cohen, 491.
