It is decorated in the first edition with a portrait of La Fontaine interpreted by Audouin after Hyacinthe Rigaud and 8 figures out of text drawn by Moreau le Jeune and engraved under his direction by Dambrun, Duhamel, Dupréel, de Ghendt, Halbou, Petit and Simonet. Copy printed on wove paper, with large margins (324 x 250 mm), in which the portrait and the figures, in proofs before the letter, have been coloured and enhanced with gilt. The volume is enriched with a suite of engravings with the letter printed on blue paper, mounted on tabs opposite the coloured proofs. Slight rubbing to hinges and corners.
