Description

LOTTINI (Giovanni Angiolo).

Scelta d'alcuni miracoli, e grazie della santissima Nunziata di Firenze Florence, Pietro Cecconcelli, 1619. In-4, fawn morocco, double framed with gilt and cold-stamped fillets, gilt fleurons on the inner and outer corners, diamond-shaped medallion composed of the same fleuron repeated four times, spine muted and decorated, gilt edges (old binding). First edition, dedicated to Christine of Lorraine, Grand Duchess of Tuscany. This work by the Florentine poet, religious and orator R.P. Lottini (1549-1629) is dedicated to the miracles performed from 1252 to 1612 by the miraculous fresco of the Trecento, reputedly painted by an angel, which is preserved in the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata in Florence. It is particularly sought after for the engravings by Jacques Callot with which it is decorated in the first edition: a frontispiece reproducing the miraculous fresco, a title-frontispiece and 40 full-page figures, delicately engraved with burin after drawings by Matteo Rosselli, Donato Mascagni, Tempesta, Pomarancio, Fabrizio Boschi and Giovanni Bilivert. From the library of Charles Van der Helle de Perdekerchof (1868, no. 387), an illustrious collector from Lille, with bookplate. Another unidentified armorial bookplate with the motto Constantia et labore. A copy in a beautiful contemporary Italian binding, with modern endpapers and counters. Head cover missing, minor rubbing, rare scattered foxing. Lieure, 78-119 - Cicognara, n°2060 - Brunet, III, 1181.
